\"Brokering<\/a>There is much to say about the wide-ranging nature of multi-stakeholder partnership work, but my focus has been increasingly on the specific issue of \u2018partnership brokering\u2019 \u2013 a term created in\u00a02000 when I co-authored a book published by the United Nations\u00a0Foundation for Partnerships (UNFIP) entitled:\u00a0The Guiding Hand: Brokering Partnerships for Sustainable Development<\/em>. The term \u2018partnership broker\u2019 describes anyone (whether \u2018internal\u2019 to one of the partner organisations or \u2018external\u2019 operating as an independent specialist) working on behalf of the partnership as a whole to make it efficient and to help optimise its potential.<\/p>\n

In 2003, with a colleague (Michael Warner), the first professional Partnership Brokers Training course was launched for those operating in the intermediating role under the auspices of the International Business Leaders Forum (BLF) and the Overseas Development Institute (ODI). Since then the scope of work has grown exponentially with more that 300\u00a0Partnership Brokers Training<\/strong> courses having been delivered in locations across the globe and, more recently, on line Remote Partnering<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The professional not-for-profit entity \u2013 the Partnership Brokers Association<\/a> (PBA) \u00a0established in 2012 \u2013 delivers a comprehensive range of training courses, undertakes action research, publishes case studies and ‘think pieces’ and provides partnership brokering support to individuals, organisations, partnerships and other forms of alliance across the globe.<\/p>\n

\"PartnershipPBA now has more than 6,000+ alumni (graduates of the training courses), 600+ of whom have completed a formal professional\u00a0accreditation. It operates through a global network of Associates\u00a0 as a distributed entity with no physical office.<\/p>\n

As well as continuing to support the work of PBA\u00a0(as the Co-Lead of the Accreditation Programme and Chair of the Accreditation Panel), I also\u00a0do some independent work as a partnership broker \/ reviewers \/ facilitator \/ mentor \u2013 particularly in brokering the idea that\u00a0investment in the partnering process<\/strong>\u00a0will build partnerships that are robust and inclusive and will\u00a0lead to the transformation of thinking and practice as well as to more collaborative business models and far more sustainable outcomes.<\/p>\n
